Missed the mark
Feb 14th

The creepiness of the mailman reading the young woman’s mail is completely overwhelming. Nothing can save this painting. Let’s take a closer look:
–the 1.5 inches of personal space is slowly disappearing. you can almost see the old guy sliding around the back of the mailbox to engulf the girl
–his right hand has a death grip on his left hand, giving us a little peek into the subconscious struggle he is having- not a good sign
–the wistful and pleading look on the old guy’s face has an unsettling twinkle of hope as he is encouraged by the fact that the girl has not yet run back into the house.
–the girl is either frozen in fear or enjoying the attention from the old guy reading the love note which she makes sure he has an unobstructed view of.
Art Fair

A few weekends ago we went to the Stone Arch Festival of Art. I bought two small collages from an artist named Sarah Kargol. She won first place in the mixed media category. The two pieces I bought are paper collage and drawings on wood. Check out the rest of her stuff at www.sarahkargolart.com. One of my favorite things about the collages is how bored the monster looks in “Youth 2″.
TomTom Hates CultureCulture
Dec 2nd
First, you need to know that I love having a GPS. Colleen and I wouldn’t be able to get around the Twin Cities without it. Unfortunately we’re finding that the TomTom doesn’t seem to want us to attend any sort of cultural events.

The following weekend, we were planning to meet some of our friends at a traditional Chinese folk music concert at the University of Minnesota campus. Again, we typed the address into the TomTom, and hopped in the car. This time we ended up at the U of M campus, but apparently we were on the wrong side of the Minnesota river. It took us another frustrating 30 minutes before we finally found the correct building, and we had to quietly sneak into the back of the concert hall.
So, I haven’t decided if the problems are from bad points of interest, bad addresses, or both. Another possible source of problems could be the poorly named streets of the Twin Cities. I mean, who names a street South Washington Ave on one end, and Washington Ave South on the other?? We still use the TomTom when we’re traveling to new places in the Cities, but now we check the actual location on Google Maps first.
Portfolio
Aug 29th
I now have an official artwork portfolio. I am wondering what everyone thinks about it? I don’t know how much I like the ‘portfolio’ page of the site with the photo albums of my work. I would love comments or suggestions. I still want to have an art site that isn’t a portfolio but more of a works in progress type of thing. That will have to wait for now though.
